| Infrastructure:What applies to faculty applies to infrastructure too. |

| Today you can get a basic mobile for as much as Rs.1500. May be even less. A good mobile ( I am not saying a fancy, I am saying good) with all the necessary features for a top professional will cost substantially more. At least ten times more. Usually much more. As much as Rs.40,000 or still more. |

| Same with a car. A basic used car might cost as little as Rs.50,000. A good car with air-conditioning substantially more. As much as ten times more. |

| What is true for a simple mobile or car is true for any infrastructure. All institute may not have adequate infrastructure, let alone world-class infrastructure. Many institute open by buying used equipments. Many invest as little as they can get away with – to keep costs down. |

| Once again, we have decided not to take that route. We have invested in real world-class infrastructure. The best of the breed. At par with what you will get anywhere in the world. |

| This has come a price and this has its own value. After all, excellence comes at a price. |
| |
| Number of hours: When we say, become a real networking professional, not a tech-coolie; beyond pure rhetoric, what does it really mean. |

| If we have not simply taken a catchy phrase but mean it, what does it mean in practical terms. |
| |
| Most simply stated it means more knowledge, wider knowledge, knowledge to handle most problems that most other people cannot. |

| Continuing with our example of teaching English language it means producing people who can think in English, argue in English, sing in English, watch movies in English, interact with people of English speaking countries as equals compared to simply producing people who can just speak a few sentences in English. |

| Beyond good faculty and good infrastructure it needs more time. Much more time. Rome, they say, was not built in a day. |

| And, more hours means more cost, of top faculty and top infrastructure. After all, excellence comes at a price. |

| Batch size: Finally, our fees is more because of our batch size. |
| |
| Think about it for a minute from a practical angle – two institutes have 100 students. One puts all of them in a single batch with a single faculty member. The other institute restrict batch size to ten students per batch and also conduct soft-skills training, once again restricting the batch size to ten. |
| |
| On the cost front, the first institute has cut down it costs by more than 90% by increasing the batch size and by not imparting soft-skills training but all it has done by doing that is to treat people like commodities – potatoes or tomatoes instead of people whose whole life is going to be affected by what they do. |
| |
| We have controlled batch size. We treat individuals as individuals and not as commodities. Individuals need individual attention, commodities don’t. |
| |
| All this has implications. It costs more. However, it produces world-class professionals, not tech-coolies. |
| |
| After all, excellence comes at a price. |
